The Journey So Far...
Born in Australia, raised in the Middle East and now based in the UK, JAYA is a story-teller who draws influence from all corners life.
A captivating singer-songwriter and guitarist, Jaya's soaring vocals and dynamic performances have landed her some prestigious shows, including supporting 80's Pop Icon Rick Astley on his Australian Tours and performing with singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch on her Winter Secrets Tour. Jaya is notorious for energetic live shows teeming with audience interaction. Inspired by a range of artists including Tracy Chapman, Imogen Heap, Damien Rice and Hanson; Jaya combines punchy rhythmic guitar with melodic bass lines and soaring vocals; taking listeners on a roller-coaster ride of Poetic-Folky-Pop.
At 18, Jaya moved to Australia to study Music on The Gold Coast. Jaya started gigging locally and then at venues and small festivals around Queensland and in New South Wales. After releasing her debut EP, ‘Go All the Blue People’ she went on to tour in regional Queensland; and to play her song ‘Pocket’ at Skilled Park Stadium, as pre-game entertainment for the Gold Coast Titans. Jaya opened for Pop Icon Rick Astley on his Australian Tours; and also performed alongside Australian singer-songwriter Clare Bowditch at her ‘Winter Secrets Tour.’
Moving across the pond to settle in the UK, Jaya joined forces with bassist/singer, Ronald Maas (NL) and drummer/percussionist Stefano Magini (IT). Following the release of the single 'Dreamer', The trio had a whirlwind year, touring in the UK, Germany and Holland; and releasing two additional singles, 'Wake Up' and 'Make A Change'. The band’s follow-up EP, 'Happy With That,' was described by The Raw Music Blog as ‘Powerful and full of poignancy’ and gained support from Berlin Based indie label, Waterfall Records. The single, ‘Love Is a Bird’ was featured in notable YouTube Playlists including AlexRainBirdMusic. The trio played a string of live shows to promote the EP and toured in The Netherlands, Germany and Italy. JAYA’s album, 'Fractured Disposition', was released firstly as standalone singles, and then pieced together as a full body of work. The album is a mixture up-beat Folk anthems and Poetic Pop confessions; and captures the bands raw live energy topped up with brass and strings.
2025 marked the start of a new chapter. Jaya started the year in the studio and joined forces with London producer, Fi Mac. Making a conscious choice to explore a new side to the JAYA sound, the pair set out to create an intimate set of recordings, showcasing the story-telling and vulnerability of Jaya as a solo performer. The end result is a collection of indie-folk reflections, drawing influence from some of Jaya’s favourite songwriters including Tracy Chapman, Damien Rice & Lucy Dacus.
The next single off JAYA's up-coming EP is titled, ‘Bullet In The Gun’; and will be released on February 26th 2026.
